Tarot Pathworking with the Tree of Life
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. -Genesis 1
The Origin of Pathworking
Poets and philosophers, astronomers, priests and priestesses have contemplated the esoteric meaning of life since the first moment of consciousness. Hidden deep within religious texts, songs and oral traditions are similar accounts of our rich, primordial beginnings. While the ancient mythologies of Egypt, Greece and Rome form the basis of the Judaic Christian tradition, quite similar legends are rooted in cultures and religions native to nations, tribes, civilizations and sacred sites around the globe. We are ALL ONE family who share a humble, yet noble story. Through our remembrance of this bond, we honor the spiritual link between all faiths and fully acknowledge our perfect union with Spirit. Thus, the origin of Pathworking lies within our cosmic memory, and as such, it becomes the lifeline of the human experience.
Understanding the Tarot Connection
Tarot is a universal language. The four suits of the Minor Arcana correspond to the four elements (fire, wands; water, cups; air, swords; earth, pentacles), the four seasons and the four directions. These are all sacred points in the natural world. Likewise, the archetypal figures we encounter in the Major Arcana are representative of significant teachers whose paths cross ours on a daily basis.
Think of the Tarot card as a key. The position of the card in the spread represents a door or a gateway into the symbolic lesson of the card. Through the Tarot keys, we access the energy of the card and literally reveal the power hidden within. We can then bring the mystery of life into the light of day, rediscover our potential, explore our life path, and develop our skills and abilities with focus and intention. As we fully own our life purpose, we reconnect with our Source. In this manner, the wisdom of the Tarot enhances and enriches all religions, philosophies and belief systems.
So What Is Tarot Pathworking?
In Qabalah, The Tree of Life consists of 22 paths which correspond to the 22 Tarot keys of the Major Arcana. The paths connect and become The Tree as we journey from one point to the next, opening gateways along the way. When we focus on a specific Tarot key and truly work with the wisdom of the key, the experience of the Tarot Card Reading becomes much more than a lighthearted amusement or an intellectual exercise. Instead, the goal of the Tarot seeker is always to gain wisdom and inner peace, to create forgiveness in our personal relationships and to learn to be more loving, accepting and kind. Often it can be a struggle to overcome the desires and the resistance of the ego, but the beauty of the effort gives life its awe-inspiring majesty as we calm the dark forces of fear and create true meaning in our lives. This is the passion of poetry, art and music. This is Tarot Pathworking.
The Importance of Affirmations
Words have power. Like prayer, chanting or a mantra in meditation, the sound of Tarot's universal language, spoken out loud in the form of an affirmation, can create very real and positive change. Moreover, by daily affirming the truth of a Tarot key, we can strengthen or confirm the insights of the Tarot message. Therefore, the affirmation is the facilitator which reawakens our cosmic memory and guides our psyche to accept this wisdom with every cell of our being. In this manner, we can more fully unify sacred knowledge with ordinary experience.
Always keep in mind that the Tarot Card Reading expresses understanding and knowledge acquired directly from our Higher Self. When we cite an affirmation, it is important to recognize that we are making a solemn vow to our Self. Therefore, we must be open and truly listen to the words that we are speaking.
*** The Tree of Life Tarot Spread ***
The sacred, geometric layout of the Tree of Life Tarot Spread opens the portal of each Sephiroth globe on the Tree's path, revealing the physical, emotional, and mental body of the seeker and unwinding the illusions of the psyche. As such, this spread has the potential to surface what still remains unconscious in the seeker. Not surprisingly, it is within our emotional traps, which tend to be our most challenging spots to break through, that we have the potential to find our Truth. Keep in mind that the key of all pathworking is to fully meet each and every moment, to see it for what it is and then to let it all go again and again until only Light remains. This powerful 10-card major Arcana spread forms an esoteric map that unlocks the gateway to our highest Self. It is truly a valuable, metaphysical tool that offers spiritual wisdom and insight along the return journey Home.
